We also used bear bags other than those provided by Philmont. We went to a local industrial seamstress and had bear bags made out of lightweight (but strong), waterproof nylon. Each bag measured about 4 feet tall by about 2.5 feet wide. Each bag had a grommeted drawstring with a cord-lock to close the top, along with a loop of 1" wide nylon webbing sewn at the top to hook the bag onto a climbing-rated carabineer. The carabineer was hooked onto the loop in the bear rope and could hold 5 bags. These bags were also "too big" and we kept our per-bag weight down this way.
