Re: [Philmont]: Rain Gear and Tent Stakes Question

I agree with Dr. Bob that raingear does double duty. Personally I am very warm blooded and I didn't wear rain pants while hiking but they are very nice on cool evenings or while on break when your body cools due to inactivity. In 2002 we hit a big hail storm at Baldy Camp and the raimpants and everything else we had helped keep us dry and warm. I was able to loan some clothes out even...One note though, short gaiters might be a good option while hiking in the rain as rain water can run down your legs into your boots....soggy socks make for blisters. A couple of our younger smaller scouts hiked in rainpants and were fine...never figured out why they don't sweat!.
We mostly used the standand steel tent stakes but did have some of the lightwieght MSR tri sided (groundhog, or something like that) stakes for the dining fly and they worked very well also.

warm. I routinely hike through rain without any raingear (I usually
need the free shower, especially these last few years on the Ranch).
