This seems to be the prevailing attitude. However, we aren't getting
any baggage checked, because Raton isn't a staffed stop. We are
limited to two carry ons. But we seem to be ok if we pack them deep in
the packs and none of the boys pull out a knife to start whittling on
the train!

I talked with the Reservation person who quoted out of the Amtrak rule
book. Restrictions are officially in place since 9/11 by order of
President Bush. (That's a quote) I then called the Baggage Service
department at Union Station here in L.A. and she told me that there
wouldn't be too much trouble bringing the stuff in as you mentioned.

We're getting dropped off and picked up, so it will be someone else who
has to worry about that! I've got to watch their kids for two weeks,
they can put up with a little traffic! ;)

:) Thanks!

On to the next question - I'm sure I've heard you all mention that
white gas is available at Philmont. True, no? And do you sometimes
get extra fuel from the crews coming off the trail? (Or are they
"selling it")
