Re: [Philmont]: Youth or Adult?

He can be either. We had a 19 y/o last summer, and as we already had 4
adults over 21, he went as a youth. However, if for some reason we only had
one adult over 21, he could have been the second advisor. He tented alone
though, as he couldn't tent with the youth, and we had the other adults
paired up (two men, two women). Have a great trek!

I've seen this discussion several times before, but now I have a
specific situation that I'd like some help with. We have two crews
going this summer. One of our scouts turned 18 last October and just
had his Eagle COH this past Sunday. He and his father are going to
Philmont with us this.

Can we consider him a youth member? Or is he an adult? We have 8
members (at least) on this crew, if he's an adult, he'd be the fourth
one. We are registered as a Boy Scout troop - not a Venture Crew.

What's your experience? Any pros or cons to having him go as one or the
other?

Lou
