Interesting treatise on stove fuel, John - now you've
really piqued my interest with the 'morning coffee'
statement. What does your experience have to share
about that? What method do you use?

Not being a selfish person, I'll share.

I don't regularly require coffee. I can get more mileage on a
pint of water than most people get from a six pack of beer.

In the past I have heated <<coffee water> in empty C ration
cans fired by a smering of C4 explosive around the bottom, but
I don't recommend that for use at Philmont.

In other relms, I simply build a small fire and use a lilly can.
That is any old clean can with a wire bale. I don't suggest that
on the PhilTrail either.

Try this.

Your Scout supplier sells a small rectangular folding heat tab stove.
Some call this an Esbit stove, some a heat tab, whatever, it ideally
has just enough heat energy in one tab or bar to heat one cup of water
to make hot tea, cocoa or coffee.

Put together a little kit and caboodle and in the morning, go sit on
a rockaway from the camp but within sight. Let the youth do their
thing without your interference. Sit on that rock, fire up your little
stove amd make your brew.

Enjoy the moment as the best in the day. Quiet and alone with just
you and nature as it should be.

Leave all the groaning and belching and so forth for later in the
day when it will surely come. Just enjoy this moment of peace and
thank the creator that you are priviledged to have it.

Let the kids see you do this and see how much you enjoy the peace
that is associated with it. Let that alone influence them in
their lives. It will and in a very positive way.

I have done this on mountaintops and in valleys, on roadsides and
trailsides wherever luck or not so much luck has placed me
and it refreshes me to this day.

Trioxane or Hexamine are two names for fuel tablets.
My kit is in it's bag in the side pocket of my truck just waiting
for me to need it. I might just use it tomorrow morning now that
I think about it. Maybe I can find the right place to set it up.
