[Philmont]: Burros

There is a trick to using burros at Philmont.

The trick is to get the burro to move.

To do this trick, you have to think like a burro.

Try this burro trick.

First take a turkey bag, the kind you roast turkeys in the oven in. Then you fill this turkey bag full of carrots and tie the bag to a string and tie the string to a Lekki trekking pole and hold the bag of carrots in front of the burro. When he takes a step forward trying to catch up with the bag of carrots, then just be fure he is pointed in the right direction so he won't be going in the wrong direction.

But first he must be able to smell the carrots which he can't do if they are sealed ina turkey bag.

To do that you take a sheath knife and stab the turkey bag full of holes so the carrot scent gets out of the bag.

If the TSA confiscated your sheath knife from you at the airport, then try using a stick but this probably won't work because turkey bags are pretty tough bags.

But don't give up, there is hope.

Simply open the turkey bag full of carrots and divide them among the crew. At least that way you get one decent meal on the trail.

As for the burro, well like they say........it's an experience!
