RE: [Philmont]:  Burro Packing

Before arriving at Philmont, we had our first time crew vote on the burros. Several had friends who had attended and had heard many pros and cons, but the vote was unanimous to pack with them (adults were not permitted to vote).

As long as you think of it as two days of program, you can't go wrong. On the second day, one of our burros kept trying to nudge us off trail (usually on the side of the drop off), but other than that, the experience was mostly fun.

And,with a crew of 9 and two burros, those furry boys carried 11 pounds that otherwise I would have been carrying. Made my feet happy and watching the scouts cope kept me entertained!

My advice is let the scouts decide, and make it a no-regrets decision (in our crew, means no one can say "if you hadn't___________(whatever) this wouldn't have happened."
