Donald,

As part of your reply to Robert below you wrote

"If you are saying you aren't even on the waitlist for 2006, forget it
or consider a short trek after Aug 9 if school schedules allow."

That is the second time in the last couple of weeks that I have heard it
suggested that the shorter treks in late August are still available. I
remember filling out our lottery request and the short treks were available
choices. I was assuming that since we said we would take anything and ended
up on the waiting list that the short treks were gone too. We could
probably go that late as our school has gone back to a very late August
start. Do you really think they are available for this coming summer? I
guess I should call and find out.

Thanks,
Bill Summers

Some big payments are due about now and a lot of crews withdraw at this
point. Usually about 30-50 crews on the waiting list get called, but it
really varies from year to year. Since this has been a big drop off year
(possibly due to the hurricanes) already, I suspect we may see some more
than usual drop out.

However, I would suggest other plans. There are lots of great alternatives
that go wanting every year.

That said, Philmont sends a letter with your wait list number. I've never
heard of anyone over 400 getting a trek. In a "normal" non-jamboree year,
it is very unusual to get above 150 (but this year is not normal).

If you didn't get notification of a waitlist position for 2006, you should
call. If you are saying you aren't even on the waitlist for 2006, forget it
or consider a short trek after Aug 9 if school schedules allow.

Try HH, or any of the excellent council high adventure bases (White's
Landing on Catalina Island for Orange County Council is a good example), or
an international trip (you can visit England on the cheap for prices very
similar to a Philmont trek).
