We were lucky enough both trips to have plenty of time to enjoy the
summit experience. The "best" memory is of the rock thrones that
someone had constructed that we could sit in to take in the view. we
had made the drive through Angel fire and the Vietnam Memorial so it was
especially neat to b have been able to look "down" on that beautiful
area & say"wow, we were there just a few days ago!" There was also a
"tables" & "chairs" set up that we used to play numerous rounds of
cards. We did learn that it is preferred that such things NOT be bulit.
In fact we met a couple of rangers on our way down in 2005 who were
going up there for the express purpose of dismantling any
"constructions" and they said they do it quite regularly - partly to
preserve the "natural" state of the summit area. Soo if your crew does
do any building it seems that it would be best if they deconstruct
before leaving so as to LNT! Happy Trails to all the lucky crews that
get to Mt Phillips this summer- I really envy you! Zea bauer '01,'05
