I just got an envelope from Philmont inviting me to attend this summer-I
guess someone nominated me at council.
It sounds like fun and my two boys, 12 and 8, even sound like they're
interested (they want the horse riding). BUT, they both have Aspergers
Syndrome (a form of high-functioning autism). The 8yo can function fairly
well in most situations, although he is noticeably less mature than other
boys his age. The 12yo I think would have a hard time and may need more
individualized assistance (like an aide) and probably will need to take
breaks from the activities at times when he is overwhelmed.
Does anyone know, before I call and ask, if Philmont can and/or will
accommodate these special needs boys of mine?
I need to find that out, and I need to figure out how much it would cost to
get down there from Portland, OR, before we can decide whether to go.
