The School calendar, Summer school, and other BIG school trips have
definitely made a dent in our troop summer activities. We used to have 2
summer camps back to back in AUG, right after summer school was over. There
was even a week left for a family trip in AUG, now our school year ends June
21st and starts again around AUG 25th. Summer school lets out the 2nd week
of AUG, and fall sports and band camp start the next week.
We now plan an early summer camp (1st semester summer school) and a late
summer camp (2nd semester). We don't even have a BIG high adventure
activity this summer since many of our high school age scouts will be going
to Europe with the high school band. WE'll do a short backpack in the
Sierras in AUG instead...........looking forward -- I hope -- to Philmont
2007.
At #62, I feel pretty good. I do know the feelings of frustration for those
in the #1100-1400 range, around the area of our waitlist numbers for the
past 2 years.
