You may be right, Jeff, I don't really know, but I am pretty sure
that the 1482 on the wait list that Philmont is reporting this year
is not significantly different than the number they usually have
on the waitlist. If so, then I'm not seeing the connection.
I still contend that the numbers for the last two years relate to
explainable factors, Jamboree in 05 (which matched what happened
in 01) and Katrina/Rita in 06 (much more widespread than most
prior years).
I also think there is a changing demographic as more and more
scouters make use of internet resources to find real alternatives when
they get waitlisted rather than electing to do no big high adventure
and remaining available for a PHilmont trek on a short notice basis.
