RE: [Philmont]: Propane Stoves

When I was a Ranger, I saw one crew over four summers that carried
single-burner propane stoves. I'm sure they're not prohibited, but I
certainly wouldn't recommend them given the better options that are
available. Each crew member carried a full propane canister with them (that
seems like a lot of weight and bulk to me) and it seemed to work fine for
them - I'm not sure if altitude would affect their operation or not.

I am under the impression that propane stoves are either not recommended
or not allowed for Philmont.
Can someone tell me which (not allowed or not recommended) and why?
I believe the answer is that they are allowed but not recommended due to
having to carry all the canisters in and out during the whole Trek. Or
maybe they don't work well at altitude.
I am asking because a member of our crew has one and wants to use it as
opposed to having to buy a second white gas stove for our crew.
