Re: [Philmont]: RE: Batteries and Jet Boils

My son and another scout used a pop can alcohol stove for a couple of
months on the A.T. last summer. I hiked with them for a couple of days
and liked using an efficient stove with no mechanical parts that weighs
practically nothing. However, the pop can stove seems unpractical for
Philmont because you need one for every two people. I have discussed
using the pop can alcohol stove with my son, who will be a ranger at
Philmont this summer, and he agrees that it is probably not the right
equipment for a crew at Philmont, although it might be a good amenity
for making hot coffee.
