There are several LNT methods for hanging bear bags in the Valle. The
ranger will demonstrate the one he/she wants you to use.

If you will be staying a significant period of time there (not just passing
through), then you may want to prepare beforehand on your practice hikes. I
have a method for LNT bear bagging but it is a long-winded description of an
LNT bear bagging method using 3 ropes. A modified "Marrison System", where
the 2nd tie-off is on a different tree and all tie-offs are taught in the
Topping Out book under Coil Wrap/Tensionless Rigging (multiple wraps around
the trunk (10-12 wraps). The Marrison System can be found here:
http://www.princeton.edu/~oa/training/bearbag.shtml

I'll look in the Ranger Field Guide to see if there is an LNT Bear Bag they
describe and, if there is, report back here with it. If you want my
long-winded and slightly complicated (well, not THAT complicated) way, email
me directly and I'll send it to you.

As far as meal cleanup, basically you pack it out. Gray water should be
spread out over a large area once it is sieved and the solids are stored in
the yum-yum bag. Human sumping is highly useful in LNT environments.

Good evening again.

I have 2 questions about Valle Vidal procedures.

1. How are bear bags hung in the Valle Vidal?

2. How is meal cleanup handled in the Valle Vidal?

Thanks again.
