RE: [Philmont]: Valle Vidal

Sometimes Philmont changes what they teach but here is what we were
shown by our ranger in 2001.

We had to take 3 bear ropes. Basically, one on one tree, one on a
second tree, tie together and pull tight creating a bear bag cable.
Then use the third rope to hand the bear bag.

We were shown how to build a wilderness sump. Make a pile of rocks.
Pour the wash water over the rocks. Then toss the rocks. Theory is
that this spreads the smell.

Good evening again.

I have 2 questions about Valle Vidal procedures.

1. How are bear bags hung in the Valle Vidal?

2. How is meal cleanup handled in the Valle Vidal?

Thanks again.
