I received the below e-mail from Rob Bayer today so it isn't too late to
organize a Spring Break (or weekend) trip to Philmont for Kanik. Youth
participants must be at least age 14 by 1/1/07 or be in at least the 8th
grade. I recommend Kanik without hesitation.

-- Calvin H. Gray Scoutmaster, Troop 405 Associate Advisor, Venturing Crew 405 Georgetown, Texas I used to be an Owl (WM-62-2-98 @ Philmont) http://www.troop405.org/ ____________________________________________ Dear Troop 405 Scoutmaster, I am writing you today on behalf of the Kanik program at Philmont Scout Ranch. We saw that your troop sent a crew out here several winters ago and wanted to let you know about some of the great snow conditions this year. Just yesterday, in fact, we got over a foot of snow and some places in the backcountry have up to 4 feet on the ground! All of our crews so far this winter have been building quinzees, taking day hikes on snow shoes or skis, sledding, and just generally having a great time in the snow. Since the last time you were here, the Kanik program has received a number of equipment and gear updates and, as before, we can outfit a crew with just about everything needed to camp comfortably in the cold-as long as you show up with long underwear, socks and a hat, we can take care of the rest! If you have any questions about the program, or if this sounds like something your troop would be interested in doing again, please do not hesitate to contact me.
