What if one of your boot disappear during the night? What will you wear the
next morning? Food for thought... :-)

Here is an interesting statistic I heard a couple of weeks ago. Each year
an average of 20 boots disappear from Philmont. I would guess of that
number, less than 5 are lost due to scout carelessness and the rest of the
MIA boots are due to curious critters. Of those, a large portion could be
due to food being dropped on one of the boots.

I haven't seen this mentioned in the many posts, with todays modern boots,
branding your boots could be the start of a significant failure. It
wouldn't be that tough to burn through stiches holding the composite of
materials together. Perhaps the heat from the iron could cause the material
behind the leather to melt into an uncomfortable shape which could be the
equivilent of a permanent pepple under the inner lining.

For me, my camp shoes will allow me to complete my hike. Although, I can't
imagine even trying this in the white mountains of New England with all the
roots and rocks that many call trails.

Regards,

Tom Fitzpatrick
