I've actually done some hiking in my crocs (they worked great on
Jeremy's Run, a circuit hike with something over 13 water crossings in
Shenandoah Nat'l Park--I quit counting at 13). They do pick up
pebbles, but are tough, easy on the knees, and very light.
In 04 at Philmont, one member of my crew hiked for 3 days in my Teva
sandals. She hadn't broken in her boots well enough and had some
pretty awesome blisters, aggravated by a tape allergy. She was able to
switch back to her boots on about Day 6. Even if you opt for no camp
shoes in general, I suggest bringing one or two pairs of something that
can be adapted for such problems. Otherwise, I'd have had a great
scout who made a bad decision taken off trail.
BTW, she's a plebe at West Point. You live and learn and grow.
