[philmont] Camp Shoes/Crocs

First off, to each his own.

I have been using a pair of cross country running flats for the last 35
years. The current pair I have weighs 11 oz. I have hiked with them quite
often peak bagging and road walks. I could use them for back ups, but the
main reason is to be able to take off wet boots when I get into camp.

As for crocs, one of my older scouts used them in 2004 and continues to use
them as camp shoes.

Most of the scouts didn't carry any camp shoes and were fine.

My hiking buddy typically has a pair of tevas.

As for blown out boots, my best friend in high school had a seam let go half
way into an 8 day trip. Duct tape worked just fine. He had to rewrap it
every couple of days because it would wear off the sole on the Vermont
Granite. We've tried shoe goo before, but the boot has to be dry and
relatively clean (tough to due in the NE) or it doesn't stick.
