Rick Tyler writes...
<snip> the pants didn't get worn too much at Philmont , even though we were there last year during the monsoon season. The boys said the rain usually came in after they finished hiking for the day, and if they did get wet on the legs it didn't take long to dry. I think they only wore the rain pants one day -- but the jackets frequently.
Comment...
Do not read into Rick's comments that the rain pants aren't needed, or listen to over agressive weight conscious Rangers that they are an item that can be left in Base Camp. I too rarely wear mine on the trail, but they are an essential health and safety item to prevent hypothermia, and I always carry them (including sidehikes.)
