In addition to the CD available through Northern Tier that Pete supplied
information on (I have a copy, It appears to be something they commissioned
as it isn't in national's AV catalog) national has several promotional
pieces I've used on VHS tape. These should be available through your
council service center or High Adventure Committee. If your council does
not maintain a video library it is available through the national office /
Library of Scouting which they have access to. Finally there are several
pieces on YouTube, problem is you can't download them, only view them,
perhaps most notable being an OA HA promo at
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fKLmZCrbGlo .
If you have trouble getting the Council Promotion Pieces contact me off list
and I'll chase down the number for you.

Subject: [philmont] Philmont Promotional Video?
Troop 290 from Ypsilanti Michigan will be going to Philmont 6/26/08.
We have a minimum contingent currently signed up from our troop to go.
The reason I am positing tonite is... as many of you may already know,
southeastern Michigan is not doing very well economically and Ypsilanti (20
miles west of Detroit) is no exception. Our troop has 20 registered scouts
10 of which will be eligible by the time June 2008 comes along. Of those,
more than 1/2 of them come from families who's financial state likely may
not allow their sons to attend with us.
However, I have had much intersted from those scouts and parents, and I
have told them that money should not be the reason why you can't goto
Philmont. We as a "crew" plan on doing additional fund raisers and such to
help everyone offset the cost of our trip. So we want to work hard as
families so their son(s) have the opportunity to go.
In that light, a few parents belong to local organizations (i.e. Optimist
Intl, Moose Lodge, Eagles, VFW, etc...) who plan on asking for financial
assistance for our their sons to go.
My question tonite is: Does anyone know of a "promotional video" for
Philmont which I can get/download/buy? I plan on then showing it to the
parents and their organizations. It is a great chance to not only promote
Philmont, but also inform those who are not familiar with it, about the
life-changing experience and great adventure Philmont is.
I called Betty at Philmont and she said that there is not currently a
video avialable, but only brochures. So, can anyone help or offer
suggestions?
