First off an opinion - I think Dry Camps are a part of the experience and an
opportunity .. they should not be avoided, but rather celebrated as a part
of the experience, a challenge and part of the reality of High Adventure.
Water management is an important part of the experience and can't really be
taught when water is always readily available. I also agree (I think) with
Dave in that the Dinner for Lunch thing isn't that great of an idea. I
don't think the kids ever come up with this one, I think it is an advisor's
suggestion to save some weight. One of the best trail meals I ever had was
Chili Mac on a cold, misty, overcast night at Tooth Ridge Camp ... it really
hit the spot.
I was going to assert that every trek gets a dry camp or two, but decided to
do a quick query against PhilSearch's 2006 data to see .. the results
surprised me ... (d is always dry, dt is usually dry)
