A quick story about a crew on Trail Peak.? Several years ago, a crew from our council was headed up Trail Peak.? This crew happened to have as one of its advisor a Marine Corps general.? If you know a Marine, you know that they all share a deep respect for their brothers and sisters who have given their lives in the defense of the Nation.? You also know that they are in fabulous shape, from a private to a general.? The youth members of this crew had heard about the tradition of "pissing off the wing of an airplane at 10,000 feet" and were eager to make their own mark as they approached the top of Trail Peak.? As they began to move to the wing of the downed B-24, they heard a very quiet, but very?forceful "Halt".? The general then proceeded to tell the crew?about the young men who had died right where they were sitting, some of whom were only several years older than the crew members themselves.? When he was finished, the mountain got very quiet and only sound that you could hear was the wind through the tree
s.? After spending several more minutes on the top, the crew silently, but reverently and respectfully left Trail Peak, with a new and lasting memory of Philmont.
