Just a thought...but perhaps in support of that effort, you would be willing
to provide a write up with some additional details which cold be given to
the Logistics Department. Then simply ask them to provide a copy to all
crews who will be going there. As part of his responsibilities, again
perhaps, the Chaplain's Aide could read the story for his crew once they
summit that peak. Remember, respect begins by setting the example.

As usual I learn a lot from replies to my posts.

I still implore everyone associated with this list to "Please Stop".
Abraham Lincoln said, "The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here,
have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract. " But I
don't think Mr Lincoln would have appreciated boys peeing on that hallowed
ground.

Dr. Bob and Mike Sharratt (thanks Sharon) bring up great points. It's not
malicious and how I handle it must benefit the boys. I would never dress
down a Scout, or his advisors, if I happened upon them participating in the
ill-conceived tradition on Trail Peak. But, I can tell the story of the
crash the night before my crew's ascent, or even at the staff campfires (if
they'll let me) at Beaubien and others in the area. Then ask that they take
a moment to reflect on that sacrifice when they reach the crash site.

I don't think any Scout/Scouter would make a tradition of peeing on the Tomb
of the Unknowns or the battlefields of Gettysburg, because they know about
the sacrifices represented by those places. So lets start a new tradition
of educating trekkers before they climb Trail Peak about the sacrifice of
the men who died there.
