Sorry Don, you cannot disagree with me about a Poncho, because I did not state my stand on it. Not attempting to get an old wound festered up again, but a Poncho is a real Scouts best friend. The key term here is "real" and that definition is left to one's imagination.
However, in todays Scouting and terkking at Philmont, considering all the other caveats, the Poncho wins a thumbs down.
But given me, myself and I in the wilderness, I'd take a Pahcho anyday for about 99 reasons, none of which are to keep me dry.

Disagree with John (and conventional wisdom) on poncho. Works fine WITH GAITERs. Only advantage the rain suit has is it gives you a pair of long pants that leave you not needing another pair to carry.
