John, et al,

If you have a really inventive Ranger he will try to top our Ranger from
2006. It did seem that his pack was a bit heavy when we got off the bus
at Six Mile Gate. When we got to Cottonwood Trail Camp (one of those out
of the way, second night out, marking time camps to make sure your
Ranger training is complete) I noticed he was spending an inordinate
time down at the well where there was a water trough. Finally he let me
in on the secret as he needed help bringing his treat back to camp.

After supper he broke out the 20-pound watermelon that had been cooling
in the water trough and the large kitchen knife he had carried for two
days. What a great treat after a hot day on the trail! Great for
additional hydration, too. He even carried out the rind the next morning
as he left us on our own.
