David,
I learned from this list a long time ago that you don't need "hot" water for instant oatmeal. Even the ones with a coffee habit got over that need. We always ate breakfasts on the trail at some scenic spot - that got us out of camp easily in the morning. We would mix water in and eat out of the envelope, lick the spoon and you're done. Some of the spots where we ate breakfasts were really great and sort of a good time to discuss what was going to happen that day. This is another good trick to pass on to the troop at home and expand habits learned at Philmont.

We also use Jet Boil stoves and will be taking them to Philmont.
Have you determined how many fuel canisters you'll need per
stove. I am assuming we're going to need to boil water for every dinner
and perhaps 5 breakfasts. We will have one stove per four scouts. I
know there is a difference in boil time at 500 feet (where we're
at), 7,000 feet, and 10,000 feet - just haven't figured out the differences
yet.
Thanks, Dave
