The Ranch's position is no hope for numbers over 100.

True, we got a call with a 260+ number in 2006 but it was very late, like
May

Oh, yeah, forgot to mention. Our crew got a slot, our troop was #267 on
wait list. We got a call in December offering the troop a slot. Since we
had accepted the crew slot, and the troop was sharing already, we turned it
down.

2004, a non-jambo year, got to around 130 as I recall.
2005, a jambo year, got up to the 600s I think.
2006, a non-jambo year, got to the 300s as I understand.
2007, a 100th anniv. of scouting world jambo year, got to around 500 as I
understand.
2008, well, I know they got past 267.

I think crew slots and wait list are not getting snapped up like they used
to, and, like I said, I think you can almost count on a slot, unless the
trend changes. I think one thing feeding this trend is the fact that crews
are learning about alternative high adventure opportunities much more
readily than they used to, as more and more of the leaders are internet
savvy (or at least connected).

Who knows what will happen in 2010 for the 100th anniv. bsa jambo year...
2011, a world jambo year, is not as likely to have world jambo change the
pattern as it is only one year after the 2010 national jambo, and the BSA is
far less likely to send 3000 scouts to that one than they did to the 2007
world jambo. More's the pity, World Jambo is a decidedly superior
experience to National Jambo.

From: Donald S. RobertsRecent trends say you will almost definitely get a
slot. The question is whether it is a slot you can use, since the schools
that get out mid-june are problematic for early june slots, and those going
back to school early august are problematic for august slots.
