I have used my Sweetwater Guardian during flood conditions on Bright Angel
and Clear Creeks (Grand Canyon). The clay was suspended and did not settle
out even after 16 hours in a plastic bucket. The Guardian needed to be
cleaned after each 2-4 quarts, but it did the job and cleaning is fairly
easy. I would be careful about drinking colloidal suspension of clay
particles - diarrhea was my experience. that was my last trip using just
Polar Pure. I now have a silt stopper attachment which might stretch the
cleaning time for the filter element a little, but have not had a chance to
use it. with relatively clear water I get 8-12 quarts before I need to clean
a filter.
