Go to www.topozone.com
They show almost the exact things that the Philmont maps do. When I use
Netscape the cursor is interactive with the map & you can click on any
location you desire and get a waypoint marking, in UTM, D/M/S and DD.DDDD.
You can travel the whole ranch on your computer this way, including the
Valle Vidal.
Of course the Valle is Nat'l Forrest Service land, and is leave no trace.
You will find a few logging & roads, et al but since trails don't exist you
won't find them on the maps either, not the places where Philmont has
establish staffed summer camps up there. You can check Selden's web site,
several people, including myself have posted waypoint information from
previous treks that will help you locate where the unmarked camps are in the
Valle.
When I use my MS Internet Explorer browser this interactive feature does not
work. I suppose I'm missing a setting or plugin somewhere, but it's easier
for me to use Netscape than figure out the why of Expl. not working.
Happy virtual trekking!
