I have used the smaller bakepacker to cook a small cake with a Girl Scout
troop. It works fine, but follow all instructions closely to convert oven
recipes to "steam". With turkey bags available, I'm not sure I would care
to carry around the extra weight of a bakepacker, especially at Philmont
where it wouldn't be needed. Definitely within your own troop or crew
campouts, you can consider it as an option to widen your menu choices. But
it isn't necessary to do bag cooking at Philmont with the provided meals.

Subject: [Philmont]: Turkey Bags
The grate you're looking for is the bakepacker. There are two sizes, get the
larger of the two if you are going to use it for Philmont. Adventure Foods
makes F.D. meals in bags that go with the bakepacker. I've used the bag
method a few times and it works well, But I've never tried the breads,
muffins or other dishes that adventure foods claims that can be baked using
their bakepacker.
