"We can only hope the security folks will come up with more efficient
means. Our Scoutmaster recently returned from Australia. He said going
out was very slow but in Australia when leaving instead of two screening
lines as in the good ole USA, Australia used at least 10. DUH! Hey we
are Americans gotta wait for the Yankee Ingenuity to kick in ? Right?"

No, what we are really waiting for is a very large administrative process.

On 19 Nov 2001 the President signed an Executive Order Federalizing Airport
Security Screeners. So what does that mean ?

Well first as in all government business, budget, a slow process in this
country.

Secondly, the D.O.T./FAA must generate Policies and Procedures.

Third, the Office of Personnel Management must generate a Staffing Plan
from bottom up, with Job Descriptions, prerequisites and K.S.A.'s
(Knowledge, Skills and Abilities) for each position.

Fourth, advertise, recruit, hire, and uniform these personnel for EVERY
Airport in the country, many of which operate 24/7.

A daunting task, you must agree.

All the while, the people currently performing this job are looking at the
possibility of losing their employment.

Perhaps if your trek is in the 2003 season you will see improvements in
place.

Have a Great Day
