I am interested in this as well, and have an additional question: It sounds
to me like all of the short treks come off the trail the same day, as do all
of the regular treks that went out on the last day. This would seem to put
a huge strain on Camping Headquarters. Has anyone on the list out processed
on the day all these folks come in? Are we likely to run into delays that
may affect our travel home (we're likely to use a commercial carrier of some
sort, and I want to make sure we get to the train station/airport on time).

Subject: [Philmont]: Short Treks
Our unit has reservations for 3 crews for a 7-day "short trek" in August,
2003. Since I haven't seen much discussion on this list about short treks,
I am wondering how we can expect our trip to differ from a 12-day trek
besides being, well ... shorter.
How many days will we actually be on the trail? Considering the number of
days on the trail, will it be feasible to complete a 50-miler? How many of
those days will a ranger be with us? Are the same array of programs offered
to short treks? Are short treks limited to visiting only certain areas of
the ranch? Do those who complete short treks earn an Arrowhead patch, or
are those reserved for 12-day treks only?
Any answers to these questions and/or general information and insight about
short treks would be greatly appreciated.
