One of the disappointments of my 1967 trek was that we never got to see
the various museums at and around Philmont. We got off the bus and right
into the fray of base camp. I don't want to make the same mistake on our
2002 trek.
Could somebody offer advice on the right way to approach this. We will
be arriving by bus after 2 days of touring. Should we plan on arriving
as early as possible on our start day (say, by spending the previous
night in Cimarron)? Should we have the bus take us around to the Kit
Carson, Seton Library, and Villa Philmonte before we check in? How much
time should we allocate? Is there a cost? Do we need reservations
anywhere? Is there anything else in the immediate Cimarron area we
should plan to see?
I can't quite picture the logistics here. Thanks for any advice.
