I understand that Philmont plans to change some of the intineraries this summer
in an effort to reduce the number of treks that come in over the Tooth. But I
seriously doubt there are any plans to close the Tooth completely. I don't
think erosion poses much of a threat, as the "trail" to the top is more of a
rock scramble. However, the Pasture Trail (located to the east of - and
parallel to - the Stockade Trail) has been closed in recent years. It is a
fairly steep trail and it could have been very well closed due to erosion
concerns.
