This is not a Goggle issue. This has been available for years with lots of
net and software. You can set up MS outlook to do the same thing. Since
the 50's you can go to any library and do the something with a book. Every
phone number would be listed and then the address. Reverse Directory
telephone book.

Even taking your name of the goggle list will not stop it. The courts ruled
long ago, your phone number was public information and although you could
protect it, you had not rights in protecting it. Goggle is polite enough to
offer the service, few others do.

These posts that are not part of scouting and should not be here. Just
another internet Hoax.

Subject: [Philmont]: Privacy Concern

This is not directly related to any scouting issue, other than a concern for
everyone's privacy, and something you may with to pass along to the families
of the youth you work with. I apologize for the cross-posting and the
off-topic nature of this post, but feel it is important information to pass
along. This is not a hoax - I check it out for myself, and indeed I found
way more than I wanted to about myself by entering our home phone and work #
too. I have gone thru the steps as outlined below to have the personal
information removed but I don't know how long that will take. As of yet,
I've seen no difference for our personal info.

You need to be aware of a potential personal privacy issue related to the
popular search engine Google (www.google.com). There is a new feature that
makes it possible to type a telephone number into Google's search bar, click
the search button, and have a MapQuest page returned as a result. Any person
wishing to discover the physical location of a phone number, be it a home or
business address, could use this feature to locate a physical street
address, and receive explicit directions on how to get there from anywhere
in the country. One positive use of this feature could be to determine the
location of, say, an adverse party for whom you may only have a telephone
number. On a negative note, this feature could also be used by an angry
party to find out where you live. Google has made available an option that
will allow anyone to remove their telephone number from the database that is
linked to the mapping feature.

You will first need to check if your number is listed in this manner by
attempting a search - entering your full telephone number separated by
dashes (e.g., 404-524-5811). If the number appears in the mapping database,
an icon resembling a telephone will appear next to the first or second entry
on the results page. Clicking on this icon will take you to a page
containing a description of the service, and a link to request your number
be removed from the database.

Yours in Scouting,
Signe Rogers
