A Philmont Ranger's Guide to Backpacking has just been overhauled!!

http://anvilgear.com/jason/backpacking/main.php

If you are looking for information on what equipment to take on the trail
and what you do with it, then this is a place to check out. Listed are all
the necessary items that need to be taken. More importantly, each item is
discussed individually. This site includes what I used to tell my crews
during my shake down talks at Philmont when I was a Ranger.

I was appalled at the grammar and spelling errors found (I am a product of
MS schools). I rewrote most of what was up there, reflecting on what I have
learned since 1997 when it was first published. The newest feature to the
site is the ability to add comments. Since each item is listed individually,
comments that may be helpful to other Scouts can be left about any item .
Please feel free to add helpful comments.

As most would agree, having the proper equipment is only a small part to
having a successful trek.

If you have trouble navigating, let me know. I can't guarantee it will work
if you have an old browser (ex. Netscape 4.x)

If you are looking for more Philont sites, don't forget about Philring:

For you techies, here is some more info. I think this is about the 5th
facelift since its humble beginnings in 1997. The intro page uses Flash.
Most of the site is now database driven with MySQL. It is scripted with PHP
and uses CSS for layout. It is CSS2 compliant.
