To me the key is that advisors need to know the capabilities and attitudes
of
all of the crew members, both youth and adult.

While advisors play a large role in safety, shouldn't it be the Crew
Leader's responsibility to know the makeup of his/her crew? The Crew Leader
is the leader of the group. A leader has to know how the people being led in
order to lead effectively. This goes towards the leadership development that
a Philmont trek instills in a Crew Leader.
