Paul, the last thing you want to do is have this guy "bumped" off the trek
when he reaches Philmont. I have backpacked and hiked my entire life. My
father was a cub Leader, a Scout Leader, an Explorer Post leader, and an OA
advisor. I went along on everything with his Scouts. I'm a big guy, 6'2",
245 pounds in high school while playing football. Now that I am in my mid
thirties, I've added a few pounds (ok, 45 pounds). Because I wanted to
attend Philmont with my Troop, I went from 295 to 245 in 16 months by daily
exercise, and almost no change in diet. My upper weight boundary was 252
according to Philmont. I barely made it. They asked three adult leaders to
leave the ranch the same day I checked, because they were overweight. The
simply tell you...."You knew the weight limit before you arrived, it was in
your physical form", and then you have till sundown to depart the ranch.
