You got that right. Last year I completed an Alonzo Stagg Hike (50
miles in 20 hours) in March here in the Washington area, then did the
Bataan Death March 60th Anniversary Hike (26 mile+ marathon distance) in
April at the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico (near Las Cruces).
The latter in a full Scout uniform, of course. The ASH hurt, but the
WSMR almost did me in. 110 degrees in the shade by mid-day, and the
only shade we got all day was walking under a highway overpass, twice.
Not even a passing cloud. And the last tree died in the Pleistocene
era. And 15 miles of the trail was moderate to deep sand, oh joy!

I understand about 4,500 people started, and roughly 3,000 finished. I
was 1142nd, with a whimper....

After this I am considering moving to the Superstitions and joining the
hunt for the Lost Dutchman Mine.... The things we do for "fun"!
