Last year our crew of 12 also used 6 large bottles. We seemed to use an increasing amount of fuel as the trek progressed. As we got into a groove and camp setup, bearbag hanging, etc. took less time, there was more time for sitting around sipping hot drinks in the evening. Thus we were using more fuel. We took 3 stoves, 2 for everyday use and one as backup. Each stove had 2 cannisters, one in progress and one full cannister as backup. It worked for us. We were able to purchase additional cannisters enroute so we were never in danger of running out of fuel. Since we flew to Philmont, at the end of our trek we passed on the remaining fuel cannisters to other outgoing advisors at the advisors lounge.
A big thank you to HikinGrammy and others on the list last year who recommended the Exponent stoves. They worked great for us!

Of course the number of Power Max fuel bottles will vary with crew size...
but with a crew of 8, we used about 6 of the large bottles.

Subject: [Philmont]: Powermax fuel
I don't want to start the fuel thread again. I just picked up a bargain on
the Coleman Exponent Expedition stove. (I can't pass up a good buy on new
toys for camping) The question is posted to those who have used Powermax
fuel at Philmont. How many bottles of fuel did you use during your trek? I'm
just trying to get a feel on how long one lasts. Thanks
