My crew used Colorado Whitewater Expeditions before our Philmont trek in
1999. In fact Jim Moss was our guide. Due to water conditions on the Arkansas
that day Jim asked me to switch to another CWE raft for the afternoon
rafting. I was duly impressed with both guide's skill, professionalism,
concern for safety in an inherently dangerous sport and knowledge of the
river.
Jim raised an important point with us recommending that we do the white water
rafting after Philmont, arguing that if anyone was injured while rafting it
might prevent that person from participating in the trek. Due to scheduling
considerations we had to take a pass on Jim's advice.
Our crew had a blast. Thanks Jim.
I second what another post had to say about sun burn. I applied liberal
amounts of sun block in the morning before we started rafting but failed to
apply more sun block at lunch time, some having been washed away by the
water. I paid the price on the upper part of my legs.
