Desitin is one of my essential "first aid kits in a tube" for the above
mentioned reason. It puts the fire out and keeps it out.

However, smellable it is. Smells just like cod liver oil and pretty strongly
too since that plus zinc oxide is about all there is in the stuff.

I can think of a worse place for a bear to chomp down on a codfish supper
(pun not intended) than the derriere, but not many.

The Desitin stayed in the base camp locker, but was certainly appreciated by
several upon their return from the wild.

Yep, sellable it is and you too if you apply it on the trail.

A simpler solution for the same problem is along the lines of "an ounce of
prevention is worth a pound of cure". That is the sparingly, but judicial
application of Vaseline to the same area BEFORE the trip to the loo.
Facilitates less paper usage and prevents said rash.

And your derriere doesn't smell like a cod fish dinner either.

Bears do like fish.
