I drove from Lancaster CA (about an hour NE of LA) to Philmont last Fall. I
drove straight through stopping only for gas. I left about 6AM Pacific Time
and got to Philmont about 11PM Mountain Time. I had to drive through snow
from Santa Fe to Springer and couldn't get above 45MPH, so that added some
time. But that will give you an idea of how far the drive would be.
Take your son. He will enjoy the program they have for them. If memory
serves me, for the weblos program, they do a couple of day hikes to places
in the backcountry. I'm sure he would get a major kick out of that. All the
children have different programs for each age level. They also have a
program for the spouses of the attending participants.
PTC is a fun place with good people. I enjoyed getting to know some of them
last year.
