I have to ditto the comments of Stan. We were at Philmont last summer
and went to Sawmill also. It was my second trip to Philmont as an
Advisor. Like Stan, we had a long, hot hike into Sawmill. No showers
at all (ok... I can live with that), very rocky campsites ( ok ... I can
live with that), badly sighted rifles (ok ... I can live with that,
too). Don't know about the swing thing. However, the absolute worst
part of our trek was the rude staff and totally absurd and
"un-Scout-like" campfire program there at Sawmill. We also noted it on
our comment cards. It was our worst camp last year. I'm sure as Stan
said .... different day, different staff, etc. might have made all the
difference. The best part of Sawmill for us was watching lightning
storms from the porch during Advisor's Coffee, and the sunrise from the
same location next morning before departure.
