Greetings to All.
Please respond to this query OFF-LINE, to: drbob@troop111.org Thanks!
I am interested in getting a good handle on how much Philmont supplied
gear adds to average pack weights. That is, if you were a Crew that
used all or virtually all Philmont supplied Crew equipment, what was
your Crew's average pack weight when you arrived at Basecamp, and then
what was it when you hit the trail?
I do not need individual pack weights, nor average pack weights of Crews
that bring mostly their own equipment.
Average pack weights when hitting the trail should indicate how much
water and how many days worth of food were being carried.
For example, my Crew this past summer arrived at Basecamp with an
average pack weight of 21 pounds (no water, no food), and hit the trail
the next morning with an average pack weight of 39 pounds (2 liters (4.4
pounds) of water, and 3.5 days worth of food). [Note that we use our
own Crew equipment.]
This data will be used to answer a question I am asked repeatedly, and
also to make the Philmont Challenge Index a little more useful for
novice trekkers.
Thanks in advance....
