If you provide a roster of participants early with verifiable info
like place of birth and possibly SSN's, you may still have access.

No promises, but it's worth the extra effort for the possibility of
a saved stop.
Comment: The Air Force Academy Public Affairs Office had it's own forms,
which they emailed to us well in advance. There were separate sections for adult
and youth information. The forms were easy to understand. The Public
Affairs people were easy to reach by telephone and very helpful. However, the forms
were moot when July 2003 rolled around and all the specific April, May and
June conditions changed.

The Academy had separate forms for day visitors and for overnight campers --
assuming either is an option by summer 2004.

We were required to have one adult card-carrying DOD sponsor for every 10
people in our group in July 2003. In June 2003, the rule was one sponsor for
every 20 people. Anyone with current DOD ID card was exempt from the 10, since
they were allowed to sponsor themselves. We used a network of friends and
acquaintances to locate a retired Air Force colonel and a retired Navy commander
in the Denver/Colorado Springs area to be our sponsors. They brought along a
cadet, which really "made" the tour for our crew. The cadet was much closer in
age to the crew, and the boys all could relate to the cadet, who was only a
year or two older than our oldest (19) crew member.

If you make arrangements to visit/stay at a base, I'd recommend you call
ahead a day or so before you plan to arrive to be sure conditions are the way you
expect them. In other words, have a phone number and a person to contact at
each base in advance of your arrival. And have a backup plan in case security
conditions change and access is denied.
