Re: [Philmont]: Military installations

We stayed at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs in June 2003. We
were told someone in the crew had to have a current Dept. of Defense card.
Thankfully, one of our advisors did and there were no problems. We were
able to camp on the grounds for free, and they have bathroom facilities
with running water and flush toilets -- no showers though. In 2001, our
crew was able to eat in the cafeteria, and it was excellent! It was being
remodeled on 2003 though, and was unavailable. We had a nice tour, and were
given a discount at the academy bookstore with the advisor's DOD card. It's
a wonderful place to stay if you can arrange it! Call soon to find out the
current requirements -- we didn't have any unexpected surprises, but you
never know.

Does any one have any information on the availability of military
installations to New Mexico-bound units this summer? I know some crews
(including my own) that are thinking about driving out west, through Iowa,
Nebraska and Colorado. It looks like there are some conveniently located
places to stop for the night, and I would appreciate any information folks
might have, either general or base-specific.
