RE: [Philmont]: Military installations

Please remember that "now" 30% and above disabled veterans are also allowed
access to base/post areas and exchange/PX/BX and commissary. Hope this
expands our eligible leaders availability and access to military
installations. Our cub pack camped out at our local Navy Base and they were
very open and helpful and supportive of Scouting - it was a great time and
location (good chow hall food too). My only encounter with Military and
Scouting Support and it was very positive! Happy Holiday! Good Luck and Best
Wishes. Yours in Scouting: Jerry D Bailey, Assistant Cub master Pack 722,
Las Colinas District, Western Los Angeles County Council, Canoga
Park/Woodland Hills, California (I am Vietnam Era Vet rated at 100% DAV)

I can give you ageneral comment -- since I work for the Army.

The security posture in the contry now makes access to military bases pretty
limited for the general population. If your crew is made up mostly of ID
card holders (military family members, active duty advisors, retired
military) then you can at least get on a base. Camping opportunities on
instalations vary widely. Most have some sort of car camping, RV park. They
fill up. If yu want to consider staying oninstallations, and you have
access, you had better do plenty of advance coordination.
